From AM to Professional – Trevor Stanaland

When will you go Pro? A question many Amateur skimboarders hear once and decide they are ready when truly they are not. Trevor Stanaland has been hearing that question for the last few years but decided to bide his time and await just the right opportunity. That opportunity came at the Oktoberfest skim contest held in Newport Beach on October 1st – 2nd, 2011.

“Trevor is a fantastic rider with all the ability and drive to compete on the professional circuit” stated Victoria Skimboards General Manager Trigg Garner. Look for great things from Trevor in the 2012 season and check out his updated team rider page.

Oktoberfest – the last UST event of 2011

Oktoberfest was held at the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach over the weekend of October 1-2, 2011 and was the last event of the 2011 UST season. Conditions may not have been at the top of their game but everyone enjoyed the sun and competition. Some notables were:

Trevor Stanaland moved from the amateur ranks to the professional division as this was his first professional event. In his first professional experience he advanced to the quarter finals.

Johnny Salta skimmed his way to first place in the 18-21 division beating out some stiff competition.

Our Japanese Distributor, Takatoshi took 1st place in the 30+ division.

New team rider, Yuto Kishida from Japan took 2nd place in the 12-14 division.

Professional rider Morgan Just battled the conditions to place 7th.

Stephanie Magallanes took 3rd in the professional women’s division while Tia D’ambrosa took 4th.

Congratulations to all Victoria riders that participated in the event.

Freeway closure during the Victoria WCS July 16-17, 2011

For those of you that will be traveling south on the 405 Freeway that live north of Los Angeles or in Los Angeles for the Victoria Skimboards World Championship of Skimboarding, please note the following:

“Public safety and transportation officials warn the public to avoid the 405 Freeway between Interstate 10 and the Highway 101 over the weekend of July 16-17 during its 53-hour closure. A 10-mile stretch of the freeway will be closed to demolish half of the Mulholland Bridge in the Sepulveda Pass in order to build a new, wider bridge and a car pool lane on the freeway.”

If this could affect your ability to get to the contest and be at your heat on time, please make preparations as we cannot hold heats open on account of highway work. Thank you for the understanding.
