Some Saturdays just deliver.

Johnny Weber showed up at Aliso this week, and the beach did not disappoint. Clean siders rolling through, steep slope, good tide : the kind of conditions that make you glad you set your alarm. Johnny was locked in from the first run, threading siders with the kind of precision that reminds you why he’s on the pro team. Every wave he caught looked effortless, every step calculated. Good to see him out there.

Paul Carey was in the water too, holding his own and soaking up every set that came through. That’s what Saturday Sessions are about, pros and riders sharing the same waves, no hierarchy, just good vibes and good skimboarding.

Tex rolled up with hot coffee and donuts as always, because some things never change. You show up, you skim, you eat donuts. That’s the formula and it works every time.

Gear Up: Everything You Need from the Victoria Skimboards Shop

A Look Back at the Victoria Skim Camp with Tex, and Johnny @ Aliso in Laguna Beach

Some experiences stay with you long after the session ends.

This is the annual begining of our summer skimboarding camps in Laguna Beach, a group of young riders got a good ride at the beach learning, progressing, and living the skim life from 9:30Am to 12:30Pm.

MORE THAN JUST A CAMP

This wasn’t just about technique.

It was about getting in the water, making mistakes, trying again, and feeling that moment when everything finally clicks.

Over the course of the camp, each rider had the opportunity to work on the fundamentals, from their first run-and-slide to reading the shore break and timing their approach.

Tex Haines, and Johnny Salta brought their experience, patience, and passion for skimboarding to every session.

WHAT THEY LEARNED

Skimboarding is a sport that rewards commitment. The more you put in, the more you get back.

During those few days, the riders worked on:

• Board control and balance
• Wave timing and positioning
• Speed, run-up, and throw technique
• Reading the beach and adapting to conditions

But beyond the technical side, they learned something bigger, that progress takes time, and that every wipeout is part of the process.

Tex headed down to Aliso Beach this week to check the sand, and the conditions did not disappoint.

The slope was on point, the swell showed up right on time, and so did some of the best skimboarding talent from around the world. When the beach is this good, word travels fast.

It was one of those sessions that reminds you why Aliso Beach, Laguna Beach is one of the premier skimboarding destinations on the West Coast. World-class riders, clean shore break, and the kind of energy that only happens when everything lines up perfectly.

We’re hoping it stays like this, but if you know Aliso, you know you don’t take a good day for granted.

The beach showed up this Saturday. Steep slope, solid swell, clean sets — Aliso was firing on all cylinders.

Two weeks out from The VIC contest, and the conditions couldn’t be sending a better message. If this is what the beach looks like now, we can’t wait to see what contest day brings.
