From AM to Professional – Trevor Stanaland

When will you go Pro? A question many Amateur skimboarders hear once and decide they are ready when truly they are not. Trevor Stanaland has been hearing that question for the last few years but decided to bide his time and await just the right opportunity. That opportunity came at the Oktoberfest skim contest held in Newport Beach on October 1st – 2nd, 2011.

“Trevor is a fantastic rider with all the ability and drive to compete on the professional circuit” stated Victoria Skimboards General Manager Trigg Garner. Look for great things from Trevor in the 2012 season and check out his updated team rider page.

Career Day at Thurston Middle School, Laguna Beach

On Wednesday September 21, 2011 Tex brought his knowledge of skimboarding and the business of skimboarding to the students of Thurston Middle School in Laguna Beach, California. Three different sessions of thirty (30) students sat and listened to Tex talk about the boards, the riders, and the business only to be followed up by a question and answer session.

Victoria Skimboards thanks Thurston Middle School for the opportunity to speak with the students and for the kind words as written by the school counselor (see below).

—————————————–
Dear Tex,

Wow! What a life saver you were this week! When I called Trigg and he was so optimistic that you would be willing to take your time to speak to Thurston students, I was excited. The profession of making skimboards to so interesting to students. As I walked by the lunch tables, I saw—mostly boys—leaning forward in rapt attention. You held them spellbound! I so appreciate your enthusiasm for your career and your kindness at sharing the story of how you run a business and what it takes to create a piece of art that can skim the ocean. Amazing!

Thank you again for coming to Thurston Middle School’s Career Day. I know the students were so excited to hear you since that career was the second most popular choice—right after chef!

Your career is unique, and I know you inspired the students to consider a path less followed. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I hope you will consider coming back in two years when we have another Career Day.

Thanks,
Nance
Counselor

UST France – Morgan Just takes the title

According to team rider Matthieu Thibaud, Morgan Just put together a consistent contest through each round and edged out the competition in the finals of the UST competition held in France this last week to take first place. “It was really hard for him, but he did it. I am really impressed by Morgan and his capacity in contest, and his trips in general” stated Matthieu.

We extend our congratulations to Morgan and Matthieu (and any other rider at the event on a Victoria Skimboard) for representing Victoria Skimboards well a midst all of the Exile and Zap riders that were present. Great work!
