Zero Trash

Zero Trash is the best trash pick up organization I have ever had the privilege to participate in.   The concepts are simple but highly sustainable.   Between 10 am and 12 am, every first  Saturday of the month,  pick up trash on your street and beach.  Meet your neighbors who care,  buy a red shirt and a trash “picker-upper” device and do your thing.  Chip McDermott started it and it is growing and growing.

Today,  after 6 months of nearly solo trash days in Laguna Canyon, Skim Legend Kurt Westgaard showed up and helped  out.    One other Vic Team skimboarder has also done the deed,   Will Wright.   I can’t tell you how proud I am to know these guys.    Westy and I picked up all kinds of debris from the flooding weeks earlier.  Mail boxes,  broken ceramics,  gold ingots,  it is so rewarding.  Seriously, it is supremely rewarding to do a little for the planet, your fellow human, and your own street and beach.   Thanks Kurt,  thanks Will,  thanks Chip.

That’s easily 50 pounds less trash that will wash down to main beach this winter just from the 1/10th mile stretch of the canyon that we cleaned.  Contact chip@zerotrash.org to help pick up your street and beach.

X3M in Mexico

Our distributor in Mexico X3M has been very busy as of late.  They have been working on their yearly contest (Melaque 2011 – see the flyer below) and the opening of their first shop in Mexico.  We are excited for both the contest and the new shop and appreciate all of the hard work those guys have been doing for the brand, the local scene, and for skimboarding in Mexico as a whole.  Good work guys, keep it up!

The Melaque 2011 contest will be February 26th – 27th and should be exciting as can be.  Professional riders from the United States flock to the event to compete with some of the best locals you will ever see.  Check out the flyer below and we hope to see you there.

For pictures of the new shop, check out the images below.  Come on by and say hi to the guys.

A fond farewell

The crew at Vic is sad to announce the departure of Bill Bryan from the Victoria Skimboards team.  Bill has been a fantastic part of the Victoria family for many years and we have grown together.  We wish Bill the best as he moves forward on his own and extend our thanks to him for all that he has done for us and for the sport of skimboarding.

Japanese distributor (Skim One) visits Laguna Beach

The Victoria Japanese distributor (Skim One) visited Laguna Beach this last week for a little skimboarding and some fun. On Tuesday night we took the boys out to The Bistro on Forest Avenue for some drinks and capped the evening off with a family sized Pizzokie from BJ’s Chicago Pizzeria. Good times and we were sad to seem them go. Thank you Takatoshi for a great time and we look forward to seeing you in Japan.

Brandon Rothe 2011

You all know how good Brandon Rothe is on the water, but did you also know how good he is with pencil and paper?  We are stoked to have Brandon’s art on our t-shirts, sweats,  and on boards for 2011.  He was Missing In Action last year during part of the contest season, partly due to injuries, but also because he went to help his sister in Hawaii, who welcomed a new baby .  But he is still here and still ripping and still filling notebooks and napkins with great designs.
