Beaker in Cabo

Bill Bryan is dedicated to skimboarding of that there can be no question. Even with the health scare in Mexico, he traveled to Cabo San Lucas to put on a skimboarding contest and ride some of the best waves the world has to offer.

Out of the Pond

The highly anticipated Billabong Wake flick premiered last night at the Newport Beach Film Festival and it brought some of my homies out from Orlando to kick it for the week (they also star in the movie). After living in Orlando riding with these guys everyday and knowing the places they went around the world to film this movie I knew it was gonna to be off the hook. Billabong’s entire team definitely stepped things up for the video, especially in terms of taking the sport new places and directions. It’s dope to see them continue to push limits of what’s possible on a board and not settle for the status quo.

Yokohama skimOrama Turnout

What an honor it was to have Tex Haines make a cameo appearance this past Saturday (April 25, 2009) and compete in the 2nd contest of the HASL series — Yokohama skimOrama!!! Even though the event was held on the West side of O’ahu (HI), which is a decent drive from all the other sides of the island, we had a turnout of about 40 competitors and 80-100 supporters. The waves were not that big but, the company and scenery made up for the extent of lulls throughout the heats.
Previous to the contest, I had the opportunity to sit down at a local breakfast with Tex and Curtis (who runs DaKine in HI) to introduce them to eachother and talk about the future of skimboarding. Being in the presence of two mentors was very humbling and inspiring. All three of our intentions and topics were filled with ALOHA which is the most important aspect in collaborating ideas and building relationships. I smell InNoVaTiOn in the air so stay tuned to the most authentic skim co. around!
This was the biggest turnout for the Womens Division. There were actually 7 of us but Natalie was judging when we took this shot.

Need to get away from your typical life on the mainland? Visit hawaiiskimboardleague.com to plan a trip around one of the HASL contests and come play with our friendly league!

Next contest will be joined with Save Makena (a grassroots org) in Maui on July 11th…

*Mahalo to Ryan Tenney for snapping the sweet shot of Tex

In Honor of Earth Day

Victoria Skimboards is dilligently working on a plan to reduce our landfill input by over 30%. Unfortunately that is all that can be said at this time but know that we are working hard with our product to reduce our carbon footprint.

Happy Earth Day!
